It's a radio on the building, talking to a tower.
Fixed wireless internet is broadband delivered over the air from a ground tower to a receiver on the house or the roof. The last mile is radio. You still get ethernet (or a router) inside.
It is not a satellite dish. It is not a phone hotspot. It is not cellular "home internet" that rides the same network as phones on the highway.
Netafy's version: fiber-connected towers, a technician-mounted receiver, no trench to the door. Homes in New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine. Business in Greater Boston / Massachusetts and that same northern New England footprint. We don't sell home internet in Massachusetts.
How the install works
- We check the address. Home requests go through the contact form. Boston offices use the Boston quote form.
- A tech mounts a receiver on the house, roof, or exterior, then runs a cable inside.
- We hand off internet. On a home, that's your connection. On a business, ethernet in the closet. We don't run tenant Wi-Fi. We don't manage the LAN.
Coverage is still the specific address. Trees and hills matter less than they used to (GigTier equipment is non-line-of-sight), but we still miss shots. When we miss, we say so.
Fixed wireless vs Starlink
| Fixed wireless (Netafy) | Starlink | |
|---|---|---|
| Path | Ground tower to a receiver on the building | Dish to satellites in orbit |
| Where it works | Addresses a local tower can serve | Anywhere with a clear sky view |
| Install we publish | Professional tech visit. Home install $99-$199. Boston business typically 1-2 weeks from a signed order. | Self-install. We don't publish their kit price. |
| Home price we publish | From $48/mo Standard Basic, or $49/mo GigTier Basic | We don't publish theirs |
| Business price we publish | Broadband from $199/mo. Dedicated from $399/mo. | We don't publish theirs |
Starlink is the better tool when no ground provider can reach you, or you need something portable. Fixed wireless is the better tool when a local tower can serve the address and you want a ground path that doesn't depend on a sky view.
We won't invent Starlink latency, snow-melt watts, or this year's residential rate. Those aren't our numbers.
State-level menus: rural New Hampshire, rural Vermont besides Starlink, rural Maine.
Is it good for business?
Yes, for the jobs it's built for.
Good fit
- The office needs to open and the fiber ETA is a construction wait. That's Boston office internet before fiber.
- You want a second path that doesn't share a conduit with cable. Two underground providers in the same trench are still one backhoe. Backup internet for Boston offices covers that.
- The building only has one wired option today. Second internet option for buildings.
Wrong tool
- Cable is already live on the floor and the product you were quoted actually meets upload and reliability. Keep it. Comcast Business vs Netafy in Boston.
- You want us to run Wi-Fi for tenants or rebuild the LAN. We don't. We hand off internet.
- We can't see a signal from the roof or exterior. Then it isn't a fit.

Common questions
What is fixed wireless internet?
Internet delivered from a ground tower to a small receiver on the house or building. The last mile is radio. Netafy's towers are fiber-connected. A technician mounts the receiver. No trench to the door. It is not satellite, and it is not mobile hotspot service.
Fixed wireless vs Starlink: which is better?
Different paths. Starlink is a dish to low-earth-orbit satellites. It works with a sky view, including places no tower can see. Fixed wireless is a receiver aimed at a nearby tower. Take Starlink if no ground provider can reach you. Take fixed wireless if a local tower can serve the address and you want a ground path. We don't publish Starlink's current prices or speeds.
Is fixed wireless internet good for business?
Yes, when the building can see a signal and you need a path that doesn't wait on a street build, or a second path that doesn't share a conduit. In Greater Boston we publish rooftop installs of 1-2 weeks from a signed order, business broadband from $199/mo, and dedicated from $399/mo, up to 1 Gbps. We hand off ethernet. We don't manage tenant Wi-Fi or the LAN. If cable is already live on the floor and the product is good, keep it.
